St John’s Weekly Bulletin – Palm Sunday 9 April 2017

This is an exciting week of preparation for our annual celebration of Easter. Thanks to everyone who is involved in our Palm Sunday services this Sunday! We look forward to worshipping together for Easter 2017. Please do all you can to be with us for worship this year.

Maundy Thursday, 13 April 2017

In the final night before his suffering Jesus shared a special meal with his friends and taught the supreme importance of love in the way that we live. Join us at 10.30am or 7.30pm.

Good Friday, 14 April 2017

On Good Friday, we remember the great sacrifice that Jesus made for us. Today we offer two services, each with a difference from our normal worship: a dramatic 9am service and at 10.45am kids and families can interactively explore the meaning of Easter.

Holy Saturday, 15 April 2017

In this service we break the gloom and sadness by lighting a fire as a symbol of darkness being broken and as a sign of new hope. 7.30pm.

Easter Sunday, 16 April 2017

Join us for the joy and celebration of Easter Day, perfect for young and old. All are very welcome to join us for this day of celebration! 9am – Traditional Easter Celebration Service, 10:45 – Contemporary Worship, 5pm – Family Service.

Blessings, Murray

This bulletin was emailed to members of the parish on Wednesday 5 April 2017 – if you would like to join the Weekly Bulletin email list, please call the church office on 02 4927 5399 and we will happily arrange this.

Parish Fair – 6 May 2017

The Annual Parish Fair will be held on Saturday 6 May 2017 from 9am-1pm!

Your assistance with the Fair would be very much appreciated! The Women’s Guild need help with the provision of goods for the various stalls and also help on the day.

Stalls include: Morning Tea, Raffle, Soup, Pickles and Jam, Handcraft, Books, BBQ, Trash and Treasure, pre loved toys, Sweets, Cakes, Fruit and Veg.

If you can help on any of these stalls please contact Jenny Walkom on 0419497392 or speak to any of the Guild members.

Lemons are needed to make lemon butter, also small to medium glass jars with lids to put the jams or pickles in. These can be left in the Hall kitchen on the back shelf.

Trash & Treasure can be left in the Hall AFTER Sunday 30th April. This is so we don’t inconvenience other groups using the Hall.

We look forward to making this a great parish fair in 2017!

Men’s Weekend

The 2017 Anglican Men’s Weekend will be held 19-21 May 2017. This is a great time for men to get their faith built up with a great weekend of teaching and support. The main speaker will be Rob Llewellyn, a former professional musician, now an Anglican minister in this diocese. Please get in touch with Phil Ashley-Brown for more details, or get an information postcard from church.

Keeping children and vulnerable adults safe

A really important part of our ministry here at St John’s is keeping children and vulnterable adults safe as part of our community.

The two basic parts ways we do that are: Working With Children Checks, and Safer Churches Training.

1. The Working With Children Check (WWCC) is a history check through a person’s national government and employment records and flagging people who might cause concern if they were allowed to work with children. In NSW, a WWCC is a requirement for people who work or volunteer with children.

2. Safer Churches Training is another basic part of our effort to keep safe. It involved a one-day course to start with, with half-day refresher courses. The list of upcoming courses is found through the Diocese of Newcastle website at: a href=http://newcastleanglican.org.au/mission-ministries/safe-ministry-training/> http://newcastleanglican.org.au/mission-ministries/safe-ministry-training/ . We require volunteers to complete this training, but we strongly recommend that all parents and people with a passion to keep St John’s safe undertake this training. It’s an excellent resource for all parents who are concerned about the safety of their children, whatever institutions and groups they are associated with.

We have a new page on our website at http://www.saintjohns.com.au/children to provide easy links for you to be involved with a Working With Children Check or Safer Churches Training. This page can be found under the “Kids, Youth and Families” tab on our website < a href=http://www.saintjohns.com.au/>homepage.
